My Accounting Journey (It Didn't Start with a Fancy Office)

Back in 2002, I started my career as an Accounts Assistant.

I earned minimum wage while studying accounting, spending my days working and my evenings in the library. Exams were handwritten, calculators were essential, and "the cloud" was just something that brought the rain!

Those early years taught me the value of hard work, attention to detail, and perseverance. I survived the nerves, the challenges and even asking my boss for a pay rise and I loved every step of the journey.

Learning from Real Businesses

I have worked across industries including steel stockholding, construction, ferry services, garment manufacturing and importing, and accounting services, supporting businesses from small companies to multi-million-pound organisations.

I worked alongside external auditors and gained experience in management accounts, financial reporting, VAT, payroll, CIS, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and rental income management. This gave me a strong understanding of the day-to-day financial challenges businesses and property owners face.

I've also been through HMRC inspections – and nothing beats that feeling when everything is confirmed in order!

More Than Just Numbers

Behind every set of accounts are real people and real pressures.

Over the years, I have supported businesses with the financial processes that keep them running smoothly, from ensuring suppliers and employees are paid accurately and on time to helping owners understand their numbers and make informed decisions. I have also helped resolve common accounting challenges, including missing invoices, incomplete records, VAT errors, unreconciled accounts, mixed personal and business expenses, and poor inventory control.

I believe trust is built through consistency, honesty and clear communication.

I continue to learn, keep up with technology and still enjoy a good accounting book whenever I can.

Taking the Leap

Years ago, one of my directors, an experienced external auditor, told me, "You're technically very good at what you do."

Those words stayed with me. At the time, I didn’t have the confidence to start my own practice, but hearing that from someone I respected gave me the encouragement I needed, even if I didn’t realise it at the time.

Fast forward to 2019, I finally took the leap and started my own practice. Looking back, it’s funny how a simple sentence from years ago gave me the push to take that first step.

I founded Accounts Repair after seeing how often businesses struggled with accounts that were incomplete, inaccurate, or in need of attention. I developed a passion for helping business owners bring their finances back under control, providing clarity, accuracy, and the confidence to make better decisions.

I didn't spend thousands on advertising. My business grew through recommendations – the best kind of compliment.

Since then, I’ve continued to learn, grow, and build a practice based on strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and a genuine commitment to helping my clients succeed.
